About David Jellie

My relationship with photography is rooted in a deep appreciation for the quiet, restorative rhythms of the British landscape. Based in Worcestershire, I have spent years wandering through ancient forests, tracing riverbanks, and waiting out misty mornings to capture the fleeting moments where light and atmosphere align.

For me, the forest is not a place for hurried snapshots. It is a beautifully complex, sometimes chaotic canvas. My photographic philosophy revolves around deceleration—slowing down my physical pace in the field so that I can truly perceive the character of a woodland, the geometry of its branches, or the subtle micro-world of autumn fungi. I treat the camera not just as a tool for recording light, but as a medium for narrative storytelling.

Over my career in the photographic arts, my exhibition work has been recognized internationally, earning me the prestigious AFIAP distinction (Artiste de la Fédération Internationale de l'Art Photographique).

Supporting the Photographic Community

Beyond my personal portfolio, I am deeply committed to fostering a vibrant, supportive community for amateur and professional photographers alike. I currently serve as the President of the Bromsgrove Photographic Society, a prominent club within the Midland Counties Photographic Federation (MCPF).

Our Society is active in the local community, providing evolving displays in libraries and entertainment complexes. We are currently working with a locl display centre to provide workshops on photography that are open to the general public.

Believing that knowledge is best when shared, I regularly visit community groups and camera clubs across the region to present my work My presentations are designed to be warm, practical, and highly transparent. I actively demystify the creative process—sharing real-world field techniques, camera failures, and detailed "Before & After" raw darkroom workflows—to inspire photographers of all abilities to step outside, look closer, and uncover their own visual stories.
